book projects

Here is a basic overview of what a book project with me usually looks like. Please send any questions you may have through my TALK page.

requesting a PRICE

In order to provide a price for your book interior layout for print, I need to see the entire book manuscript, so that I can see how long it is, how complex the formatting is, and how many graphics there are.

I can also provide pricing for:

  • Cover conceptualization and design
  • Editing and proofreading before formatting
  • Creation of graphics or charts for the book's interior
  • Final proofreading after formatting
  • Fixed format ebooks (pdf format).

I am happy to provide a free quote on your book project. Please list the services you need when you request a price.

If you are looking for someone who specializes in creating reflowable ebooks (epub or mobi) or uploading to various print-on-demand services like Amazon's CreateSpace, Lulu, etc. I'm happy to recommend someone to you!

PROVIDING YOUR FILES

When submitting files for your book project, please include:

Your manuscript in a .doc or .docx file as well as in pdf format. Please ensure that the manuscript is fully proofread and edited before submitting it, unless you are requesting proofreading or editing as part of the project. Other than the body of the book of itself, don't forget to send along your copyright page information, dedication, forward, index or any other front or back matter you want to have included.

Your book cover in a high resolution format (unless I am creating your cover). I request this so that I can incorporate some of the same elements or stylistic features of the cover in the interior of the book as well. If possible, include the typefaces that were used on the cover as well.

Any images, graphs, logos or chart files that will be used in the book (unless I am creating them). These should be provided as individual, clearly-labeled high-resolution files. The manuscript should also indicate where each image should be placed. Please note whether the graphics should be in colour or black and white.

PROJECT TIMELINES

Book layout projects can easily take less than a month from start to finish.

Step 1: 5 to 8 business days for a sample of your custom interior layout. This is a 4 to 10 page sample layout so that you can take a look and provide any feedback before the full manuscript is formatted.

Step 2: After your feedback on the initial interior sample layout is received and any updates requested have been made and approved, it takes about 5-10 business days for me to complete a full interior layout of your book.

Step 3: Minor changes after full interior layout usually take no more than 2 to 3 business days.

These timelines do not include time for cover design, editing, proofreading or the creation of graphics or charts for the book's interior. If your project includes some of these services, or if the book is more than 200 pages when it is formatted, timelines will vary. Please contact me through my TALK page and let me know the details of your project, so that I can provide an accurate timeline.

At the end of the project, print-ready and web-ready pdfs will be provided to you. The original working files for your project (created using the Adobe Creative Suite) can also be provided at no additional cost if you'd like them.
